Before the House of Valois,it were the Capetians who had the French throne and also Dukes of Burgundy. The last grandson of this Capetian duke who was married to Margaret of Male, died at the age of fifteen, leaving Margaret as an eleven-year-old widow. She would later marry Philip the Bold.
