10 3) Inflation: a hidden factor for a blind belief in progress? Wages usually rise more slowly than prices. Yet people have the impression that we are better off now than, for example, 10 years ago. Wages are now much higher. We no longer see that purchasing power may have been much higher in the past....Hence the tendency to self-deception; The belief that we are doing much better than before, given our seemingly much higher pay!
