What extinguishes or preserves the use of a script is not its efficiency in representing a language. It is rater the power, prestige and vitality of the cultures which use the script. Thus the Iraqis and Egyptians now use the Arabic scripts… But try to imagine that the USA should turn to the Arabic script… The importance of which culture backs a particular script becomes clear.
