There is no specific Germanic festival that falls exactly at the time of Pentecost. Pentecost is a floating festival (50 days after Easter) between 10 May and 13 June) and Germanic peoples mainly celebrated the summer donation (solstice preparation) and fertility cult without a fixed date name: old fertility rites, such as reading the Pentecostal flower, maypole parades or lighting fires. However, these elements are derived from the May celebration (Celtic Beltane / Germanic Walpurgis Night around 30 April – 1 May) and the Midsummer Festival (around 21 June).
Later folk traditions have used the name Pentecost for pagan customs that originally belong to May. The May celebrations and preparations for Midsummer were sometimes put on Pentecost by the Christianized population.
