Default mode network (DMN) in rest
When our brain rests, for example when walking, watching children play, birds... But not at sleep, the brain does not use less but more energy.
A dynamic process starts across the entire network of cognitive activities that increases mental resilience and perhaps also creativity and ingenuity, including improvement of solutions developed precisely for this rest period. Such rest was called "default mode network" rest by neurologist Marcus Raichle (2001).
